I've taken a few days off this newsletter and I encourage you to take care of yourself right now as well. It's time for me to get back in the saddle, though.
Massive setbacks and anticipation of waves of terrorizing new developments are something to take seriously, but they're also part of the landscape of change. Apparently.
And to be clear, awful as this is, traumatizing people like us (at least EPA staff) so that we don't even want to go to work in the morning is explicitly part of the strategy, at least the strategy according to Trump's previous Director of Management and Budget.
So let's take care of ourselves. We're in it for the long haul. That can mean lots of different things; anger has its place, for example. If you're in the mood for that, check out this collection of recently released super-intense Black Metal songs published today. I'm finding it helpful. If you're NOT in the mood for that, adrienne maree brown on Instagram is a good bet for smart, kind, grounded, inspiration.
And if you are interested in my election analysis: I blame the confluence of inflation, cultural backlash, disinformation, and poor Democratic party performance. Coming out of it, it's really important to me that we not throw gender freedom and environmental justice under the bus in order to try to court right-leaning voters.
