The Ecological Cost of War: Agricultural Devastation Mapped
New satellite research shows devastating damage to Gaza's farming system:
Before late 2023, Gaza grew half its own food. But between October 2023 and September 2024, most of its farming infrastructure was destroyed:
7 out of every 10 orchards were wiped out
4,000+ greenhouses were demolished
Recovery will be extremely slow. The soil needs major cleanup work before any new planting can begin. Even after that, it will take 15 years for new olive and citrus trees to grow enough to produce fruit.
To take action on this, see our friends at the Veterans for Peace Climate and Militarism Project.
